Onward rulebook and prototype on tabletop simulator

Dear friend of Skytear Games,

The third chapter of Skytear Horde -Campaigns- is being printed these days and therefore we are shifting our focus to Onward, our next project scheduled to launch for crowdfunding this January.

Speaking of launch (wink-wink) if you follow the project on Gamefound now you will get a free promo pack added to your pledge.

We are currently standing at 4322 followers and "expert marketers" told me we should get more... so pleeeeease ;)

During the Essen SPIEL convention last month, some lucky players had a chance to play the early prototype of Onward.

The feedback was fantastic, so it's with pleasure that we now share the rulebook and digital prototype with the whole internet.

"Wait, what is Onward?"
It is a 2 to 4 player competitive board game inspired by MOBA video games like League of Legends or DOTA2. It is the spiritual successor to Skytear, our first game released in 2020.

One game of Onward is faster than you might suspect, as it takes between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the map being played and the player count.

This is how a game in progress looks like, on the 3-lane map (that is, the true MOBA map!)

As you may problably guess from the image above, in Onward you will:

  • Control between 2 and 5 champions, each bringing 5 unique cards to your deck. The number of champions depends on the map and number of players.
  • Manage minions strategically across multiple lanes. They will help your champions destroy the enemy nexus, which is ultimately the goal of the game.
  • Slay monsters to earn gold, so you can buy items to simply do all of the above, but better!
  • And if you fancy, you may also chop into pieces the colossal outsider monster in the central river area, for extra points... ;)

Rulebook and digital prototype

To dig deeper into Onward, visit the resource section on our website.

You will be able to get the draft of the rulebook and the Tabletop Simulator mod (3rd party software required).

On the digital prototype, you will be able to play the 8 champions recommended for your first game on the 2-lane map.

In the same resource section you will also find a link to our Discord server, which is a convenient way to find an opponent to play with on Tabletop Simulator.

I am also personally looking for games quite regularly these days, so... don't be shy!

"But... I just want to see a video of this game"

Later this year, we will share playthroughs and how to play videos, so you can see what the game is like in just a few minutes.

For now, this is all we've got, as we're looking to gather feedback to polish and refine the last bits, ahead of the crowdfunding launch of this January.

Feel free to reply to this email to share your feedback, questions, or even use the survey form on the resource page after you try it out.

Happy gaming and... Onward! ;)
Giacomo

Last November, we shared the first playable prototype of Onward, after more than 2 years of design and development. And now, after some months of back-and-forth with players, countless tweaks, and some tough design calls… we truly believe this is the best MOBA board game we can create. In other words: Onward is officially done! You can play it right now on Tabletop Simulator. (All 32 heroes!) And the Gamefound crowdfunding is scheduled for March 18. Remind me again, what is Onward? Onward is...

Dear friend of Skytear Games, The crowdfunding for the third chapter of Skytear Horde last month was a great success! The project is now being polished every day and that is what we are focusing on. Thank you to everyone who backed us! But today's email is about our third game, Onward. For years now, we have been working on a spiritual sequel to Skytear, our first game released in 2020. For the new players that joined only recently: Skytear is our card and miniatures game that delivers the...
